Personalised online card service, hallmark.co.uk, has launched a new Father’s Day advert featuring a dad who didn’t know he was the star until the advert aired during a break on ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent.
Jim Crewdson, of Grimsby, was secretly nominated by his daughter, Anna Wilson, 29, from Kettering, for a competition run by hallmark.co.uk . The prize was to have a Father’s Day TV advert produced in his honour and Jim had no idea he was the lucky winner until it aired for the first time on ITV1 last night (2nd June) at 8.15pm.
The Father’s Day advert, which was created by Leo Burnett, features Anna, 29, talking to camera telling her dad why she loves him, and will be shown for the next two weeks. It shows pictures of Jim and his children through the years and the personalised Father’s Day card Anna chose for her dad.
Because Jim knew nothing about the advert, secret video cameras captured his reaction to seeing it for the first time, which is available to view at www.hallmark.co.uk
Jon Taylor, from Hallmark Cards online, commented: “We launched the competition to find someone who wanted to go even further to show their dad they cared with their very own personalised advert.
“We chose Jim as the winner as the entry from Anna really stood out. Thankfully his whole family managed to keep it from him, so he knew he had been shortlisted but thought the judging was yet to happen. We really wanted to film his reaction as we knew it would be priceless. There’s not many people who can claim to have been a star in their very own personalised TV advert and not even know about it, so it’s no wonder he’s so shocked!”
Anna nominated Jim, aged 63, as the most deserving dad – nicknamed ‘Sir Weeps-a-lot’ for crying at every fatherly occasion, from his children losing their first teeth to the receiving of each Father’s Day card he’s ever been sent.
She commented: “As soon as I saw the Hallmark.co.uk competition I knew I had to nominate my dad. He is one of the friendliest blokes you will ever meet, he always wants those around him to be happy.
“The fact the advert showed during Britain’s Got Talent seems apt, as he keeps us entertained with singing and his silly antics, like coming out of a different door at the supermarket and upon not seeing his car, reporting it stolen! But he’s such a proud dad and granddad, and the fact he always weeps at the big and the small moments in our lives just makes us love him more. It was nerve-wracking taking part in the advert but I wanted him to know how much he means to us.” |
